Plasma Donation

Plasma donation

So I’m trying to raise some money to pay off bills and Plasma Donation is a way to get money for a part of your body fluids. Ok Plasma donation is not really a donation more like selling of bodily fluids. Since plasma is a bodily fluid and your body regenerates the plasma within 24 to 48 hours. Makes a nice way to raise some money as long as their is no complications.lol.

I have known about blood donations and plasma donations didn’t know they paid for plasma though, that since it was a donation it would be free for them to get.you know a nice and generous thing to do for the good of someone else in need. Guess what plasma and the time to get it ain’t free either plus the screening to get it done is almost like a basic check up.

Plasma donation from my perspective is for others that have a auto immune Disease or disorder in the production of plasma. Plasma is used for wound healing it is the compound that helps to clot the blood and it is also used for creating life saving drugs.

My first appointment was the physical appointment which consists of checking in with the nurse like any appointment then the wait to get seen. But they give you a snack like GoldFish the snack that don’t smile back after a bite, and some water since plasma and blood are mostly water. One of the phlebotomist call you up register finger print and not your finger they prick to check the iron and plasma levels in a mini rotation machine some of what is similar to the one that separates the plasma from blood.

Now here is the Fun part for me a infection on my leg made it impossible to donate until i was cleared and healthy. Definitely can not be on any antibiotics. So I was turned down the first time I went in to donate plasma about 3 weeks after antibiotics and healing time, this time took a minute and waited an extra week to make sure I was off the antibiotics and had no symptoms as well my arm was mostly healed a little fresh pink color or darker depending on injury. Now i was ready to get going again donate.

Now the second time their I was ready, had to see the nurse again and get a ok from them. Had to explain some scares on my arms as they thought it might be infected, nope just some new skin from a road rash, from another adventure in trying to save money in this very interesting economy. After the explanation I was able to start the Plasma donation process.

After talking to the nurse and getting the clear & a good ahead, I finish the process on the computer about basic health medicine, and side effects or risks of the donation. Now that is the basic comp. process is done, going to talk to the phlebotomist to finish registration and receive the debit master card.

They will tell you what to expect and any other questions to ask now.

Once cleared by the nurse technician will check the iron and other levels by the prick of a finger with a mini lancet and draw blood in a vile. Get the weight and has to be above 110Lbs. This nurse will then send you to the chairs for the next step.

Now once seated at a chair and getting assistance from the phlebotomist who is setting the machine up and and sanitize the area were they will puncture you to take the blood to have the plasma separated and collected. The blood will then go back into you system. Now the needle is a pretty big thing and of course the the needle would be that size since it is taking the blood out.

Look at that needle gauge

This is about a 45 minute process i believe and the phlebotomist said we are going to start out at a lower than normal pressure for the blood to go back in. All is good the blood is leaving and then coming back in, this happens in intervals since they can’t take it all at once. After the whole process is done your free to go and ready to make the next appointment. I’m like good this seamed good and im ready to try in 2 days to get the next appointment set.
